In common with pretty well all blocks of the age and layout of Rivermead Court, our communal hot and cold water systems are prone to the build-up of bacteria. We keep on top of this in a number of ways:
- We maintain to a high standard the cold water tanks in the loft spaces, servicing them regularly, monitoring their condition and temperatures and dosing them with anti-bacterial agents;
- We soften the hot water to lower the risk of bacterial build-up;
- We add an anti-bacterial agent (Sanosil) to our hot water system;
- We maintain the hot water system at >55ºC (we appreciate that this is hotter than some residents would prefer, but it is essential for safety); and
- We sample flats for bacteria
In addition, we ask residents to flush all outlets at least once a week for two minutes (some outlets require a more stringent regime, but those will have been notified separately). If you are unable to do this yourself, please ask the porters to do it for you. Their email is porters@rivermeadcourt.co.uk. We also ask you to descale shower heads and tap filters regularly and make sure flexible shower hoses are in good condition (over time the rubber inside deteriorates and becomes a fertile breeding ground).
